Real Madrid superstar Isco has been linked with a shock move to Liverpool, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon as reported by The Express. The Spanish magician is believed to be on the radar of multiple English clubs with Chelsea and Manchester City also interested in pursuing the player’s signature.
The 25-year-old Spanish international plied his trade for Malaga before joining Real Madrid. His excellent performances at La Rosaleda Stadium earned him a transfer to Santiago Bernabeu where he has become one of the modern-day Galacticos. However, the fight in the middle of the park at Real Madrid is getting intense and leaves no space for an under-performing player.
Real Madrid already has a host of midfield talent in their squad in the form of Marco Asensio, Isco, Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Mateo Kovacic who can all play through the centre. Asensio and Isco are supposedly the future of the club and Kroos and Casemiro form the crux of the current team and are expected to be the backbone of the midfield for the coming years. However, with Modric at the dusk of his career and Ceballos unable to settle in, Isco alongside Asensio is set to become a vital member at the Bernabeu over the years.
Although primarily a creative midfielder, Isco’s ability to play as a makeshift winger makes him an asset in the Real Madrid line-up. His composure on the ball is well complemented by his accurate range of passing. To add the final touch to his game, he has the ability to drift past defenders with absolute ease.
Isco’s ability makes him an absolutely key member at Santiago Bernabeu and it is highly unlikely he will leave the club. This would make the claim about his move to Liverpool seem a little redundant. Moreover, with only a few hours left in the window, it is unlikely that the player will fly across countries and force a move of this magnitude between two clubs who are unlikely to agree on his fee without several complications. All this can be made to appear even more far-fetched with the idea that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane holds Isco in high regard and is unlikely to let the player leave.
For Liverpool, although unlikely, the move could have been ideal. They recently lost their star player in Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and Isco would have been the perfect man to replace him. Over the last few years, the Premier League saw Philippe Coutinho become one of the most dangerous attacking players in the world, which led the Brazilian to become a subject of interest from many clubs around the world. He has played out of his skin for the last few years at Anfield.
It is slightly worrying for Liverpool fans to think of the state of the team now that he has gone without a replacement in place and the deal for Isco, as one can assume, is nothing but a story to fill the papers.
