Leicester City came up against a tired Chelsea side this weekend and will find themselves unlucky to leave Stamford Bridge without a win this Saturday. The Foxes were by far the faster, fitter and more aggressive of the two sides with the Leicester City boys wasting several valuable chances to seal the victory.
The Foxes will feel hard done by with the referee’s decision to send off Ben Chilwell. The Englishman was justifiably booked for his first offence but rather harshly sent off for a subsequent foul only five minutes later. His sending off halted Leicester’s assault on the Chelsea goal and the Foxes re-organized to shut out a late Blues onslaught to come away with a point.
Claude Puel stayed true to his words at his pre-match conference when the Leicester boss stated that his team will come looking to attack and continue to do so regardless of the scoreline. Here is how the boys from the Kind Power stadium performed on the night.
Kasper Schmeichel: 7.5
Had a good night by helping Leicester City start attacks from the base by playing out a few good balls. Was on hand to make the regulation saves when called upon.
Ben Chilwell: 5.5
The Englishman will feel hard done by with the referee’s call and was looking impressive on the pitch until sent off. His dismissal changed the balance of the game allowing Chelsea to come away with a point.
Harry Maguire: 8.5
Leicester City’s hefty price tag for him looks like a bargain now with the Englishman churning out another solid defensive performance. He did not give Morata any space on the ball and was constantly outmuscling every Chelsea player with ease and grace.
Aleksandar Dragovic: 7.5
A good performance to help Maguire in defence tonight.
Daniel Amartey: 7.5
The Ghanian produced an energetic display by cutting down space to both Alonso and Hazard and thereby nullifying Chelsea’s usual attacking outlet.
Riyad Mahrez: 8.5
The Algerian was a constant threat from the right-hand side and drew several fouls for his team. Was unlucky to have not helped his team find a goal tonight.
Wilfred N’didi: 8
Matched N’Golo Kante in terms of stamina on the night and helped Leicester retain control of the midfield. Should have scored with the free header in the first half.
Matty James: 6.5
Leicester’s weakest player on the night in comparison. He helped his team rotate the ball but failed to make an impact like the rest of his team.
Marc Albrighton: 7
Was not so dangerous today in attack but brilliantly helped his team defend after they were cut down to ten men.
Shinji Okazaki: 7.5
The Japanese was full of busy runs and creating a nuisance in Chelsea defence. Unlucky to be not on the scoresheet tonight.
Jamie Vardy: 8.5
The Englishman was in the mood tonight to harass the Blues backline and did so brilliantly. After all, not every forward in the league can steal the ball from Azpilicueta.
Substitutes:
Christian Fuchs: 6.5
Came on to reorganize the defence and did a decent job.
