Leeds United has agreed to a deal with Middlesbrough for English midfielder Adam Forshaw. The deal is now subject to a medical for the player and Leeds agreeing on the final personal terms with the player. The deal is expected to cost the Whites around £ 2.5 million. The 26-year-old was set to move this month with Championship side Cardiff City ready to bring in the player. However, it appears as if Leeds United has hijacked the deal late on with Forshaw set to sign today.
Cardiff City who signed Marko Grujić on loan from Liverpool yesterday will be upset at having missed out on the player. Cardiff boss Neil Warnock will not have enjoyed losing out on a player to his former side. The 26-year-old players who came from the Academy of Everton first broke into the scene under ex-Leeds United boss Uwe Rosler at Brentford while on loan from Merseyside.
The player’s spell was a success and it encouraged him to leave Everton. “After going out on loan I got a taste and knew I wanted to play proper men’s football, not just for the Under-21s. I knew it was my time to make the step up.”
Forshaw eventually moved to Wigan for a year and after that was snapped up by Aitor Karanka at Middlesbrough. He was a key member of the Boro side where he has made over 100 appearances. He was instrumental in helping them gain promotion to the Premier League and made 35 appearances in England’s top flight football.
His luck under Boro manager Garry Monk had turned sour this season and hence Leeds United are expected to give the player a new start at their club. As for Leeds United, the Whites are desperate to see the deal go through quickly so that they can draft in the player for their weekend fixture against Millwall.
Thomas Christiansen’s tweak information means that the Whites have used a 2 man central midfield axis this season. Christiansen has lost Eunan O’Kane to a three-match suspension after his sent off against Ipswich Town last week. With Ronaldo Vieira still recovering from his knee injury, it will be tough for Christiansen to bank on the midfielder. His third choice in midfield Kalvin Philips is his only sure starter for the weekend but the midfielder is just one yellow card away from a two-match ban. This would mean that should Forshaw’s deal go through on time, the Leeds faithful can expect to see him in action very soon.
