Spanish news outlet, La Nueva Cronica has reported that Leeds United are looking to sign Emi Buendia from his parent club Getafe on a loan deal for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old is already serving a loan spell with Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa and has racked up 3 goals and 7 assists in 24 appearances this season.
However judging by a recent turn of events, the striker’s terms with the Segunda Division club might have soured and a probable departure is looking more and more likely. His former teammate, Yelko Pino had expressed his displeasure with the Spanish outfit in a video which was recorded by Buendia and shared on social media. This caused outrage amongst the fanbase and forced the management to part ways with Pino and now it looks like Buendia will also have to find a different side to play for.
The duo was forced to apologise to fans and Buendia was quoted, “I want to apologise to the whole Cultural family for the unfortunate content that I published on my personal social networks this morning, it was a joke, a comment from my teammate towards me and that, at no time, was directed with intent to Cultural or anything that this great club represents, I have published the situation decontextualized and offered an image of my partner that is never the real one.”
The entire move to England was speculated earlier in the season over Cultural’s close relationship with the Whites but never seemed to have the greatest of odds. But in the current climate, the transfer might just turn out to be fruitful for both parties, with Cultural clearing a significant amount of wage bill to make way for another player.
Leeds United, on the other hand, will be benefitted by the arrival of a goalscorer – something they are in dire need of for the remainder of the season. They are currently struggling in the second division of English football, having lost 3 of their last 4 games and making the steep drop to the 10th spot of the points table.
What started out to be one of the best chances of pushing for a promotion has turned into a dark and disappointing campaign for Thomas Christiansen who is struggling with a lack of attacking threat from the side. With Samuel Saiz currently sidelined for behavioural conduct and Pierre-Michel Lasogga failing to chip in regularly, an addition to the final third is necessary to improve their chances of making it into the playoffs by the end of the season.
