Leeds United, for quite some time, are being linked with Preston North End’s striker, Jordan Hugill, and they did try to make him sign on the dotted line in the summer. Hugill was keen to leave Deepdale in the summer and Sky Sports had reported that he even placed a transfer request to facilitate his exit, as the likes of Reading, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City were interested.
However, the club rejected his plea and has been pivotal for the Lilywhites in their attacking endeavours this season. The 25-year-old has smashed 8 goals and has also registered 1 assist in 26 games in the Championship so far and no wonder why Leeds United are once again keen to lure him to the Elland Road. He scored 12 goals in the English second division’s campaign last season and has showcased consistency.
The Whites are really struggling of late, particularly with respect to their striking department. Summer signings, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Jay-Roy Grot, have failed to live up to the expectations and Caleb Ekuban is currently sidelined with a foot injury. Christiansen’s attack has been severely paralyzed and the lacklustre performances in the recent games are a testament to the same.
At this stroke of the hour, the Peacocks are placed at the 7th spot in the league table with 43 points to their name from 27 games. They were dumped out of the FA Cup earlier this month by Newport County and have managed to gather merely 1 point from their last 3 league games. If they want to get themselves promoted, they must fare in much better manner.

Their interest to sign Hugill makes complete sense, for he is a decent striker to have in the ranks and although he might not be as mobile as Ekuban or Kemar Roofe, he is a clinical customer up front and is known for his killer instincts inside the box. Interestingly, Leeds United’s director of football is set to test Preston North End’s resolve of holding onto the striker.
However, the Invincibles have slapped a price tag of £8million on Hugill’s collar, and this might be considered as a bit too much by Leeds United. Intriguingly, it has to be noted that the hitman’s contract with his current club expires at the end of the season, and this might tempt them to sell him for a lesser amount in order to avoid the prospect of letting him go for free in the summer.
