Leeds United has agreed on a deal to sign the highly-rated Leyton Orient forward Sam Dalby. According to a recent report, the Peacocks has moved quickly to pen a deal with the giant centre-forward who they reckon could be a star in the making. The same report has also claimed that the 18-year-old striker is set to have a medical at Elland Road on Tuesday and Leeds are now putting the finishing touches on their whirlwind move for the English youngster. It is believed that he will pen a two and a half year deal with the Championship giants and an official confirmation will be announced by the club in the next 24 hours.
Dalby broke into the Leyton Orient first-team in the 2016/17 campaign as a 17-year-old, scoring a goal on his full debut for the club against Crawley Town in League Two. The teenage forward went on to feature in 17 matches for Orient in the last campaign, but could not help his side save themselves from the agony of relegation from the Football League. He has just made two brief appearances from the bench this term in the National League with Orient trying to shield their teenager from growing interest.
A whole host of Football League clubs have been monitoring his progress at Orient since he made his breakthrough last season which even led to the youngster having a trial at Crystal Palace earlier this season.
Leeds United has reached an agreement on Monday over the transfer of the 18-year-old forward as they rate him highly to make an impact at Elland Road for years to come. He is currently expected to feature for their Under 23 team with a view to promoting him to Thomas Christiansen’s first-team in the near future. The Peacocks has slumped to 10th place in the Championship table recently after picking up just a point in their last four league matches.
The pressure is on their manager Christensen to start delivering results soon with the club falling out of the race for the playoff spots at the end of the season. The signing of Dalby might not have an immediate effect in turning their fortunes for the better going into the second half of the campaign but he will definitely be a big boost for the club in the coming years as he looks to develop himself into a worthy talent. Only time will tell whether the transfer of Dalby will be a success or if it turns out to be a bust at Elland Road.
