Hull City are close to securing the services of Liverpool youngster Harry Wilson. According to a reliable report in the English press, Hull City have made a late attempt to seal a move for the 20-year-old winger. It is understood that the Tigers have tabled a late bid to secure the services of the Liverpool winger with the transfer deadline fast approaching.
Hull City boss Nigel Adkins desperately wants to add an attacking option before the transfer window comes to a close in a few hours. The potential addition of Wilson will add some fresh width to the relegation-threatened Tigers squad after the club was left frustrated earlier today as they missed out on the signature of Newcastle United’s Rolando Aarons, who rejected a move to the KCOM stadium and opted for a move to Serie A outfit Hellas Verona instead.
Hull’s attention has quickly shifted to Wilson and the Yorkshire club are hopeful that a deal can be struck to land the 20-year-old’s signature in the final few hours of this January transfer deadline day. The 20-year-old Welsh winger graduated from the Reds’ academy and has played in the youth ranks for the Merseyside club in the last few years. He went out on a six-month loan deal to Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 2015 but has failed to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team since his return.
Wilson is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. He can play on either wing or in the number 10 position, which might be an ideal asset for Hull if they can secure his signature in the coming hours. The Reds youngster has featured in 11 matches for the Liverpool Under 23 side, scoring 10 goals and providing 3 assists so far in the Premier League 2 this season. If he can replicate the same kind of form in the English Championship, then the Tigers will be in with a chance of saving themselves from a potential relegation to League One this term.
Nigel Adkins’ side are currently occupying the 21st place in the Skybet Championship league table with a tally of 26 points in 29 matches. They are just a point away from safety and can boast a healthier goal difference than both 20th placed Birmingham City and 19th placed Barnsley, who sit just above them. One of the major concerns for Nigel Adkins’ men this season has been the lack of width in the squad, which the addition of Wilson might address if they can thrash out a deal before the transfer deadline. However, the Reds might be reluctant to let him go on a permanent basis with just hours left in this transfer period.
Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the Liverpool academy product and whether Adkins can successfully lure him to the KCOM Stadium before the 11 pm deadline.
