It is no secret that Everton’s Davy Klaassen is no longer in Sam Allardyce’s plans for the rest of the season. When asked about the 24-year-old’s future at Goodison Park, Allardyce was quoted, “We know there is a lot of talent, but it takes more than talent to perform at this level. Mental resilience, ability to make choices and appearance, in general, are needed to meet the demands of the Premier League on that position. At the moment, with what we see, it does not work, he wants to fight for his place, but before I came here and since I’ve been here, there seems to be more coming from all the other players than from Davy.”
Klaassen arrived at Goodison Park last summer for £23.6m when Ronald Koeman was at the helm. The Dutch international is one of the brightest prospects to come out of the Ajax ranks and he enjoyed a brilliant 2016/17 season, scoring 20 and assisting 12 times in all around 50 appearances. He captained the young side to a final appearance in the UEFA Europa League final appearance where the side lost 2-0 against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Having already showcased his talents on the European stage, fans and pundits pegged him to be one of the next superstars to break into the English game. But judging by the current climate and Everton already favouring Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney in his position, Klaassen’s future is quite bleak under the former England boss.
Maybe he is better off taking his talents elsewhere to a side who need more creative talents for the remainder of the season. Who knows? Maybe with more opportunities to prove his worth with regular minutes, the Hilversum-born midfielder might be able to resurrect his career.
West Ham United
David Moyes has just lost Manuel Lanzini to a hamstring injury and the Argentine’s return is uncertain. Losing him from the final third might cause the Hammers a great deal of harm who have struggled with a lack of creativity in the side. Even though Moyes has signed Mario on a loan deal, Klaassen’s services can also be acquired in a similar fashion.
Burnley
Jeff Hendrick is the first choice for Sean Dyche in the shadow striker role but might also be the only choice. Having a player like Klaassen will give the manager a dynamic option in their pursuit of finishing in the top six.
Newcastle United
With so many players’ future looming over a possible exit including Jonjo Shelvey, maybe Benitez can strike a loan deal for Klaassen. Matt Ritchie is a talent of his own but has seemed a bit off this season.
