It seems Everton are ready to buy more talent to save their season. Having confirmed the deal for Cenk Tosun last week, Everton are now reportedly being linked with AC Milan striker Andre Silva. The talented Portuguese forward moved to the San Siro this summer after the Italian club had a major overhaul having being taken over by the new Chinese owners.
Silva who impressed with Portugal during the 2017 Confederations Cup was scooped up by AC Milan and was supposed to be one of the poster boys for the club going into the new season. The club’s tactic to bring in a whole new team failed with almost every major signing falling short on the performance chart. The team at Milan is now suffering from mediocrity and are far off from a Champions League spot let alone win the Serie A.
Andre Silva’s time at the club has gone equally bad with the striker failing to perform up front. He has been replaced in the first team position and is looking actively for a transfer away from the Italian club. It is believed that Silva still harbours hopes of playing for Portugal this summer in Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and believes that in order to retain his place in the national team he must find himself a new club.
As for Everton, Farhad Moshiri and his Everton board backed Ronald Koeman to bring in an arsenal of summer signings that saw the club spend a net amount of £142.38m. Despite spending so heavily, they have failed to score regularly and Silva has now become a target for new manager Sam Allardyce.
Tipped by many to challenge the ‘top six’, the Toffees were expected to fight for a European spot this time. Currently, Everton are fighting a battle of rejuvenation after having been to hell and back in the early few months of the season. The club has in no way been of any challenge to the top six in the first round of the Premier League.
Their Thursday night outings in the Europa League were in sync with their disappointing domestic form with the Toffees claiming one win in six matches and ending their group stage second from bottom.
However, if Silva does come to Everton, Allardyce will be left with a problem of plenty to deal with. He already has Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Oumar Niasse, Sandro Ramirez, Wayne Rooney and Cenk Tosun in his armoury and Silva will not want to join a club where he will be a poster boy of a new brand of football owing to a club takeover having tasted the pitfalls of the experience in his time at Milan.
