Crystal Palace is lining up a move for Dundee defender Jack Hendry. According to recent reports in the English press, the Eagles has entered the race to secure the services of the highly rated Scottish centre-back. Roy Hodgson’s Palace are set to battle with Bournemouth and Celtic in pursuit of the 22-year-old after monitoring his progress at Dundee in recent months. It is being reported that the Cherries were ready to table a £1m for the centre-half but Dundee is looking for a fee in the region of £1.5m. The reigning Scottish champions Celtic is also believed to be long-term admirers of Hendry but Brendan Rodgers is reluctant to dish out Dundee’s asking price for the player.
Palace has already kept tabs on the Dundee defender in recent weeks and they could look to make an offer before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of this month. Dundee manager Neil McCann was keen on retaining his services until the end of the current campaign but might be persuaded to sell his prized asset if the right offer coming in during this January transfer window.
However, he has also warned any of Hendry’s potential suitors that they have to dig deep into their pockets to land the promising Scotland Under-21 defender’s signature this month.
Crystal Palace are currently flying in the Premier League after the arrival of Roy Hodgson in September last year. He has turned their fortunes for the better in recent weeks which has helped them climb out of the relegation zone. The Eagles are occupying 13th place in the Premier League standings right now, with a tally of 25 points in 24 league matches. However, they are still in danger of facing the drop with just 3 points separating them from 18th placed Southampton in the relegation zone.
Hodgson could look to bring in some new recruits this month with one of those shortlisted targets being Jack Hendry who has the potential to be a big hit at Selhurst Park. The Scottish youngster has featured in 27 matches for Dundee this season and has scored 2 goals across all competitions. His impressive performances in the Dundee backline has still not been enough to keep his club out of relegation trouble so the player could be looking to move on for a new challenge and there is none greater than the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace are successful in their efforts to fend off stiff competition in pursuit of the signature of Hendry.
