Crystal Palace are lining up a move for West Ham United striker Diafra Sakho. According to recent reports in the English media, the Eagles are reviving their interest in securing the services of the Hammers forward this month. The Senegalese forward was heavily touted to make a switch to south London earlier in this January transfer window, but any potential deal has fallen through and West Ham coach Alan Irvine has confessed that there had been ‘no bids’ offered for Sakho .
While Roy Hodgson’s side has been linked with a number of other attacking options since then, some sources in the English press have suggested that the Eagles are willing to go back in pursuit of the 28-year-old’s signature before the transfer window closes at the end of this month. Other sources are now claiming that the Eagles have matched French side Rennes’ reported £8m offer for Sakho, with the Eagles desperate to secure the signature of the former Metz man, who has found the back of the net four times for the Hammers so far this season.
The Senegalese forward has fallen down the pecking order under David Moyes in recent months and is now looking for a switch in search of greener pastures before the end of the current transfer period.
Crystal Palace currently find themselves in 13th place in the Premier League table with a tally of 25 points in 24 matches. They have been in sensational form in the league since Roy Hodgson took charge of the club in September last year. The Eagles have made a remarkable turnaround but are still not out of relegation danger. Hodgson’s side are just three points above the relegation zone and could do with some quality additions in this January transfer window. The possible arrival of Diafra Sakho will undoubtedly bolster their attacking options going into the second half of their campaign.
Sakho has made a total of 17 appearances for West Ham United this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist across all competitions. Hodgson could be the ideal manager to get the best out of the Senegalese international. The forward has earned 8 international caps for his nation during his career and has 3 goals to his name on the international stage. He would be eager to impress at Selhurst Park if given the opportunity ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off later this year.
It remains to be seen whether Palace are successful in their efforts to lure Sakho to Selhurst Park in the near future.
