Crystal Palace are close to signing Polish centre-back, Jaroslaw Jach for £2.64m to address their injury problems on the defensive end. Scott Dann is out for the season. Mamadou Sakho is likely to be out until February with a calf injury. And, Joel Ward is another defender on the injured list.
Jach earned his name playing for Lechia Dzierżoniów before a call-up from the big times arrived in the summer of 2013. His impressive display from the back impressed the scouts of Polish first division club, Zagłębie Lubin who signed him up as a part of their immediate future.
Jach struggled to fully impress in the early stages of his career but soon resurrected himself as one of the most important figures in the club with 20 appearances this season. The 23-year-old led the backline in the side’s 1-2 win against Wisla Krakow last weekend and could be a hit at Selhurst Park.
Palace were the victims of a 4-1 thrashing to a reinvigorated Arsenal side last night and it looks like their defensive ranks need an all-important saviour right now. The backline was no match for the seamless offensive abilities of the Gunners and allowed the hosts to drill in two open headers from inside the box.
Roy Hodgson’s frustration was evident judging by his reaction from the sidelines and the players might have received the full blast after the 90 minutes. The Eagle’s started off the season in shambolic fashion losing game after game and falling to a relegation spot.
However, on Hodgson’s appointment, the club has found its structure and are currently stacked at the 13th spot of the points table, 3 points ahead of the bottom three. Even though they have been impressive in the holiday period, they are not out of the woods just yet. The 4 point difference between the clubs at the bottom half and the relegation sides make the next 14 games a make-it-or-break-it ordeal with every club gunning for the other.
A gruelling relegation battle is beckoning and they need to bolster the squad in the next 10 days to ensure another season in top-flight English football. Jach can take up one of the positions in the back four and provide a rotational option behind the likes of James Tomkins and Martin Kelly.
Hodgson is also scouting the transfer market for a goalkeeper to replace the inconsistent duo of Julian Speroni and Wayne Hennessey. A striker should also be on his list with Christian Benteke stalling his goalscoring tally to just one for the season.
