Andy Carroll, the 28-year old West Ham United forward had a very promising career. After bursting on to the big stage with Newcastle United, Carroll made a big money move to Liverpool. The striker brought in to Anfield for
£35million promised an illustrious career.
Carroll made his mark in the Premier League because of his style of play. At 1.93m, and a broad build to his body, he could physically fight off any defender and his left foot had a sweet strike. Add to that his keen eye for goal and Carroll was the typical number nine, English football has loved from the yesteryears. He could hold up play, move around the ball and find a way to finish off moves with goals.
Six years since his move to Liverpool, things have fallen apart for the Englishman and Carroll is now plying his trade for West Ham United. Andy Carroll’s run with injuries coupled with his falling out with the West Ham fans has left the striker in a dark place at the club. He has been unable to rediscover his old form of Newcastle United and the striker has struggled this season. He has played thirteen games for the Hammers and has only scored twice.
It is now being
reported that Chelsea is interested in bringing in the Englishman as a back up for their Spanish striker.
Alvaro Morata has had a dream start to his Chelsea career after scoring more than 10 goals and setting up a few more for the club. Chelsea’s record signing from Real Madrid has hit the ground running and has so far proved himself to be an able replacement for Diego Costa.
Morata hit an unfortunate snag in the middle against City when he limped off in the 35th minute clutching his left hamstring. Conte’s decision to snub Batshuayi, who is a direct replacement for Morata and introduce Willian instead, showed his lack of faith in Chelsea’s back-up striker.
Batshuayi, despite scoring 9 goals this season, has not shown the consistency Conte demands and the Italian’s decision to rebuff the striker for the City match exposed Chelsea’s lack of options up front. Chelsea is 16 points off the pace in the title race and has to buckle down from here onwards if they want to play Champions League football next season. With so many important matches coming up, Chelsea need to hit the ground running and Conte needs a backup for Morata especially with the Blues still alive in all four competitions.
In such a scenario Carroll can prove to be an effective backup hitman for the Blues given his experience in the Premier League.
