Celtic, under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers, have been able to impose their territorial supremacy once again this season. The Bhoys have collected 51 points from 22 games so far in the Scottish Premiership and are placed at the top of the league table. They have a handsome lead of 8 points over second-placed Aberdeen and Rodgers must be a pleased man after seeing his men thrive so well.
However, the former Liverpool boss isn’t expected to count out the shocks and surprises which the second-half of the season might offer. Thus, we do expect him to make churn out some deals this month. The Celts have already signed Marvin Compper and Lewis Morgan from RB Leipzig and St Mirren, respectively, and are perceived to be very much active in the market to beef up their arsenal further.
As per one of the latest reports by Goal, Celtic are keen to sign Chelsea’s youngster, Lewis Baker, on loan for the rest of the season. Recently, Sunday Post reported that Southampton are lining up for a prise Stuart Armstrong out of the Celtic Park and there have been reports linking Moussa Dembele to Crystal Palace, which implies that Rodgers must take precautionary measures as well.
Baker would be a decent signing for the Glasgow-giants, for he is someone who has the requisite calibre. He emerged through the youth ranks of Luton Town and Chelsea and was then promoted to the senior side of the Blues. However, he failed to cement his place and was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Vitesse. He is currently on loan with Middlesbrough but Antonio Conte is expected to recall him.
The 22-year-old is a shrewd attacker and has raw pace in his legs, which makes him a dangerous youngster. He is a decent passer of the ball, is someone who looks to score goals and contributes heavily towards the defensive aspects of his side. During his time with Vitesse, he proved to be a very productive player and probably another loan deal should help him in his developmental process.
Rodgers has been perennially inclined towards giving the youngsters at his disposal the necessary pedestal to perform and the likes of Dembele and Kieran Tierney are the latest examples. Baker, if his move to the Celtic Park materialises, is seemingly likely to benefit himself massively and if he derives the best out of him, he should be able to knock on the door of Conte for a place in his starting line-up next season.
