Burnley have confirmed the departure of their young forward, Harry Limb on a loan spell to Evo-Stik League club Matlock Town for the remainder of the season. The 18-year-old has featured in the U23 side for the Clarets but is not a prime candidate for selection for the thriving senior side.
He scored 22 goals for United Counties Premier Division side last season and was out of contract in the summer. He arrived at Turf Moor after facing a rejection from Swansea City to sign a three-and-a-half year contract with Burnley. The Fenmen boss, Dick Creasey was quoted, “If I’m perfectly honest with you, I thought he’d be a bit-part player this season. He’d played very little men’s football, but he grasped it straight away and the rest is history. He’s willing to learn and listen, but step five of non-league football to the Premier League is quite a journey.”
Burnley is currently enjoying their best season in top-flight English football and has been a revelation in the 2017/18 campaign. Their Boxing Day draw against Manchester United is a testament to the success they have enjoyed so far into the season.
Sitting in the 7th spot of the points table, Sean Dyche is quietly competing against the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester City for a European qualification spot.
Their impressive run of games has also taken a hit in recent times as the side fell to Crystal Palace’s attacking prowess at Selhurst Park on Saturday with a 1-0 loss. They are on a six-game winless run and things are looking a bit shaky in their dream season.
But with the three-point gap ahead of Leicester City still intact, Dyche has the January transfer window to address his problems.
With high ambitions and an eagerness to beat all odds, the Clarets will require more firepower in order to complete the dream season they are enjoying right now. Dyche gameplay mostly boasts of resolute defending but has so far only netted the ball 19 times in 23 league games.
Chris Wood’s injury has certainly emerged as a cause for concern with neither of the other strikers – Sam Vokes and Ashley Barnes chipping in regularly. Harry Limb is a huge part of the club’s future and now that their relegation worries are well beyond them, his development is highly necessary ahead of the next season.
Matlock Town are currently stagnated in the 17th spot of the league table and are facing their own struggles in front of goal. Limb’s talents will certainly help them in their quest to climb further up the table towards the promotion spots.
