Burnley are the new favourites to land the signature of Everton winger Aaron Lennon. According to the latest bookmaker odds, the former Tottenham Hotspur attacker is a clear favourite to join the Clarets before the January transfer window closes at the end of the month.
The United Kingdom bookmakers, Bet Victor has priced Sean Dyche’s high flyers at 1/3 on Saturday afternoon to secure the services of the 30-year-old before the end of the winter transfer period. The Clarets are the clear leaders in the race which also features Newcastle United in second-place at 14/1 while Lennon’s former club Leeds United are priced at 20/1.
Some reports in the English media had previously reported that Burnley were interested in signing Lennon on loan last summer but then Everton boss Ronald Koeman was reluctant to let him go in case Kevin Mirallas left. Following Koeman’s sacking in October last year, the English winger has made 13 consecutive league appearances under David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce.
The 30-year-old just has six months remaining on his current Everton contract so the Toffees might decide to sell him this month or else risk losing him for free at the end of the season.
Lennon has made 19 appearances for the Blues of Merseyside this season but is yet to find the back of the net. Although, he has provided 2 assists so far in all competitions. The former England international has blistering pace and usually operates on the right flank which could give the Clarets attack another dimension going forward if they are successful in pursuit of the player’s signature this month.
Burnley are currently occupying 7th place in the Premier League following their terrific start to the season. However, they have fallen off the pace in recent weeks with fixtures coming thick and fast during the busy Christmas period. Sean Dyche’s side suffered a bitter 1-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace in their last Premier League outing and will be desperate to add some fresh faces in this transfer window to help them in their quest to secure a top 7 finish this season.
Lennon has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and has made 342 appearances in the top tier of English football. He has scored 33 goals and made 58 assists during his Premier League career which makes him an ideal option for Sean Dyche’s Burnley going into the second half of the season. It remains to be seen if the bookies are correct about the 30-year-old’s potential move to Turf Moor this month.
