Ezri Konsa’s future with Charlton Athletic is undergoing a lot of speculation with multiple interests from Premier League sides. Brighton And Hove Albion have drawn their interests towards the highly rated Englishman. Conflicting reports have also emerged with the Charlton manager, Karl Robinson stating that the club has received no bids for Konsa so far.
He was quoted, “There are going to be a number of people chasing him. The last five games he has been outstanding. There are going to be a lot of people circling around him. He is young, he is English and he has an amazing future ahead of him but we have had no bids for him. The longer it goes, the harder it will be. We have got ourselves in a bit of a pickle.”
Ezri Konsa is valued at £8m by the League One side. The Addicks have already agreed to sell the defender but are yet to receive a bid from either of the Premier League side.
Konsa has been capped at international level for the England U20 side four times and has won the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea. He is one of the brightest prospects in the country who deserves a call-up to the big leagues.
The end of the transfer window is closing in fast and if a deal does not get struck soon, either of two clubs will find themselves in difficult spots. Robinson has not found a replacement for Konsa and losing him in their battle for making into the playoffs will turn out to be a tougher ordeal.
They are on nice 3 game winning streak after going down to Gillingham 1-2 in their opening game of the year. But they are still a point behind Rotherham United in the 7th spot and the gruelling final stretch of the season has already started.
Brighton, on the other hand, were the victims of another blowout performance from Chelsea last night as the visitors thrashed them to a 4-0 loss. The Seagulls got completely outclassed defensively and failed to convert their all important but rare chances against the title contenders.
The side has struggled to find the back of the net with just 17 goals while conceding 33 at the back. Glenn Murray’s arrest is the new snag in their struggle to survive a season in the Premier League and if they cannot land the services of Konsa, Chris Hughton will be left fighting a losing battle. They are just a point above the bottom three and the arrival of Konsa will give them the all-important defensive boost to fight off top pedigree sides.
