Spanish news outlet, ABC de Sevilla has reported that Brighton And Hove Albion are currently negotiating a deal with La Liga outfit, Real Betis for Victor Camarasa. A central midfielder by trade, Camarasa has attracted the interest of other Premier League clubs.
Betis are looking to restructure the team in the near future and are currently paying off the €7m transfer fee of Camarasa to Levante in instalments. The transfer to Brighton will allow them to clear their debts and subsequently earn a profit which can be reinvested in their future plans. Camarasa is valued at €10m – a justified investment for the Seagulls.
The 23-year-old is far from happy with the Green and the Whites, having just registered 999 minutes of game time this season. He plans on appearing regularly and that has been hard to come by in recent times under Quique Setién.
Camarasa joined the Valencia youth setup at a young age of just seven but was released ten years later. Levante UD signed him up and allowed him to make his senior debut for the reserves in the Segunda B Division. He worked his way up to the first team over the years and racked up 5 goals and 4 assists in 71 total appearances. Following Levante’s relegation from top-flight Spanish football Camarasa was loaned out to Deportiva la Coruna and later in the summer of 2017 was signed on a five-year contract by Betis.
The Spaniard is best suited to the holding midfield role but can play more a more offensive position as well. Standing 6 feet tall, the Meliana-born midfielder is quite adept technically to control his side’s attacks from the middle of the park. However, he has played his entire career at Spain and might not have the smoothest transitions to the Premier League.
We have seen time and again that players from all corners of Europe make it to England but fail to adjust to the pace of the game. However, Chris Hughton is desperate for survival in the Premier League and is willing to spend in order to bring in more talents.
Brighton got completely whitewashed by Chelsea last weekend at home registering a 0-4 loss. They are currently in the 16th spot of the points table and have a relegation on their hands with just 14 games left for the season. Camarasa can provide some depth to the midfield ranks behind the likes of Dale Stephens and Davy Propper and prove to be a good enough inclusion for the Seagulls given the deal goes through.
