Newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion are enjoying life in the Premier League. One of the lesser talked about teams; Brighton and Hove Albion have gone about doing their job quietly. They had gotten off to a decent start, so much so that they were in a lofty 8th place after 11 rounds of the league. However, even with things falling since, they have managed to cling on. For a club whose aim this season certainly will be to survive the relegation fight, they have done well.
After twenty-three-game weeks Brighton and Hove Albion find themselves in the 16th position on the table. They have played decent football so far in the league and have collected five crucial wins. Since losing to Arsenal in the beginning of October last month, they were unbeaten for five matches.
However, latest results have left the club reeling for a turnaround. Just one win and 6 defeats in their last 12 matches mean that Brighton is free falling and need to find their form soon. The club’s biggest problem has been in front of goal with the Seagulls proving to be a goal-shy team. They have just scored 17 goals in the league this season so far, placing them at second least number of goals scored in the rankings.
It seems the Brighton board has put an end to Chris Hughton’s worry with reports confirming that a deal for PSV Eindhoven striker Jurgen Locadia has been agreed. Brighton and Hove are reportedly paying the Dutch outfit a sum of £14.1million for the striker.
The deal is a club record for the club and it will see the Seagulls pay up an initial amount of £9 million for the Dutchman with the other £5 million to be paid as a part of a bonus structure. The 24-year-old forward is due to arrive on Friday on the South Coast for a medical and should things go well, he will sign a four-year contract with the club.
The forward has been in red-hot form this season scoring 9 goals in 15 games for Eindhoven before being sidelined by a calf injury in December. He is expected to return to action next month. Brighton will be counting on the forward’s goal-scoring prowess to help them safely wade out of the dangerous waters and enjoy another season in the Premier League post the 2018 World Cup.
