Alexis Sanchez did not feature in Arsenal’s 1-2 defeat to Bournemouth last night and this has sent every fan and media outlet to go into a frenzy over a transfer deal that might already have been agreed upon. This, of course, puts the entire future of Ligue 1 winger, Malcom on the spotlight too as he has been heavily linked with both Manchester United and Arsenal.
Sanchez’s exit will certainly pave the way for the 20-year-old to sign on the dotted line for the Gunners but no deal has been confirmed yet. Manchester City were in the pole position to land Sanchez’s services but are not willing to pay the £35m asking price from the North London club. An absurd statement to digest when their direct rivals could get away with a swoop deal and immensely bolster their lineup. The Chilean superstar’s agent might also demand an additional £5m making it a £40m transaction which is hard to match for the Citizens after having spent so much in the summer already.
Tottenham has also bowed out of the race to sign Malcom over the £45m price tag that he has garnered. Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho has been crying out for a winger ever since the signing of Ivan Perisic failed. The right-wing has seen the likes of Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard get fielded there but none other than the later really flourish.
A product of the Corinthians academy, Malcom has appeared in 54 games for the Brazilian club netting the ball 7 times and furthering 5 assists. He arrived at Matmut Atlantique to play for FC Girondins de Bordeaux on 31 January 2016 for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Ever since his arrival Malcolm has taken the Ligue 1 by storm scoring 7 goals in 18 games while also adding 4 assists this season. He has been blessed with a brilliant left foot and scorching pace on the wide areas. His dribbling abilities paired with the attacking instinct to find the back of the net, easily makes him one of the hottest European talents with a lot of promise to succeed in the English game.
Arsenal’s season is currently going through a tormenting period after last night’s loss to the Cherries and the side has opened up a massive 8 point gap with the top four contenders. The absence of Sanchez has exposed the incompetence of the squad who will continue to face a hard time if they do not sign a world-class talent by the end of January.
