English teenager Reece Oxford returned to West Ham United from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this year. The highly-rated teenager has come through the youth ranks in West Ham and has impressed on his various loan spells. Oxford was not ready to settle for a squad place last summer and made his move to German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
After making a slow start to his life in Germany, the talented defender made his way into the team and started three games for the club in December alone. He has now returned to London and awaits a decision on his future. With his transfer fee reported to be a little on the steep side, not many clubs were ready to take him on a permanent deal.
As his future lay stuck between life as a West Ham squad player or a loan spell elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach is ready to take back the player for the second half of the season.
Fortune has swung its way around the Hammers as West Ham United, after being winless in nine matches recently turned things around. The gloomy atmosphere around the new London stadium is a little less tentative now as Moyes attempts to find a new formula to bring his side back to a fighting place in the league. With Moyes already having a plethora of attackers, he could have wanted to strengthen his defence and keeping hold of Reece Oxford would have saved him good money, thereby allowing him to use it on other players.
Departing with Oxford will definitely leave the West Ham squad more or less the same and Moyes will need to bring in reinforcements. In order to help Moyes have a strong second half, the West Ham board is ready to bring in reinforcements to help the Scot.
David Moyes will look to build on his good start to the New Year at West Ham United as he attempts to wash over his previous success and consequent failure and rewrite his credentials as a manager.
It would also appear that Moyes is ready to not sacrifice the career of the youngster for his own squad’s purposes. At West Ham, he would have made the squad role at most whereas a chance to return to Germany will see him develop at a much faster rate. The Hammers waited till their FA Cup clash against Wigan Athletic, which they went on to lose before they finalized the deal for Reece Oxford.
