Bolton are planning to raid Crystal Palace for their former player Chung-Yong Lee. The South Korean player who primarily plays as a winger can also perform as a striker should his team need to. He arrived at Bolton from FC Seoul back in 2009 for a fee of £2.2 million. Lee won the club’s Player of the Year for Bolton in the Premier League that very season and became an important player for the club.
However, he suffered an unfortunate injury in 2011 when he broke his leg. He, however, made a return to form to the Championship side back then and once again worked his way up. In February 2015, he finally moved to Crystal Palace. Before leaving Bolton however, he scored 20 goals for the club in 195 appearances.
However, since his move to Palace, the winger has been unable to cement a regular spot in the first team for the long run. He has just made 46 appearances for them in almost three years scoring only twice. The 29-year old has been very much surplus to requirements at the club this season.
As for Palace, they have had their own drama to deal with. Crystal Palace had the worst possible start to the season. After the first seven-game weeks, the team was sitting on zero points having lost all seven matches. It eventually led to the sacking of manager Frank De Boer and the Dutchman was replaced by Roy Hodson. The change did not have an immediate effect but the big turnaround came with a win against champions Chelsea.
A turnaround of sorts has come since then and Palace are now standing on the 13th spot on the Premier League table. The Palace players who had been inconsistent and unimpressive, to say the least, are showing signs of hard work and churning out decent performances. Palace are in need of defensive reinforcements and letting go of Lee to Bolton, who is far from the first team spot, might free up some wage and budget for a new face in the team.
Bolton are placed 20th in the Championships table. The club has just assembled 6 wins in28 attempts in the league and have scored a paltry 26 goals this season. If they wish to stay up, they will certainly have to fight much harder in the second half of the season and score more goals. The return of Lee might just boost the Championship side to get out of their slump and improve the team.
