Aston Villa are fourth in the Championship table and fighting for a playoff spot this season. The Midlands club has collected 50 points from 28 games and are 4 points above the required number to qualify for the playoffs.
They have produced a mean defence this time and have conceded only 25 goals in 28 matches. The Villains have the third best defensive record in the league and are looking to bolster their defence for the second half of the season. It is in coordination with such circumstances that Aston Villa are reportedly ready to consider a move for Aberdeen Scott McKenna.
The 21-year-old centre-back is highly rated in the Scottish Premiership and has attracted eyes of a few suitors. He has played 17 games for Aberdeen this season and is one of their defensive mainstays. Although his natural position is at centre-back, he is also adept and fast enough to fill in as a left-back should his team need him to.
Hull City have reportedly made three bids for the player already and have seen all of them knocked back by the Dons. Nigel Adkins consider the player to be a top priority target before the transfer window slams shut next week and were reportedly present at Ibrox to watch the defender in action.
However, Dons boss Derek McInnes has said that the defender will not be allowed to leave and any club who thinks otherwise would be “wasting their time”.
The Villains are, however, not ready to accept defeat and will not be bogged down by Hull’s failure to land the player. As of now, the Villains defence is led by England veteran John Terry. The 37-year old joined the club this season on a free transfer after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season.
Terry, regarded as one the best English defenders, refused to sign with any other Premier League club so as to avoid having to play against Chelsea chose to join Aston Villa as a free agent. The ex-Chelsea captain has been strong at the back but given his age, he is unlikely to stick around for long. Moreover, if Aston Villa does qualify for the Premier League, it might prompt Terry to leave them.
This will leave the club a defender short and hence Scott McKenna might become a priority signing. Moreover, he will also be learning from the best in John Terry if he were to come to Villa; a tempting offer for any young defender.
