Arsenal have agreed to terms with Borussia Dortmund’s star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as they identify him as the perfect replacement for Alexis Sanchez, Express.co.uk reports.
The Gabonese superstar, who reportedly wanted to leave the Signal Iduna Park for over a year, might finally be on the verge of joining Premier League this January.
Arsenal are already preparing for life without Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, both of whom are expected to leave Arsenal in the January window, with players like Aubameyang and Malcom already being linked with a move to the Emirates. But will the Gabonese International prove to be a good move for the Gunners?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga for the past three years. Since joining from Saint-Etienne in 2013, the 28-year-old has been a complete revelation for the Ruhr giants.
Especially in the 2014-15 season, where he was transformed into a centre-forward by Jurgen Klopp and Dortmund never had to look back since. He has netted a stunning total of 141 goals in just 212 games and is on the brink of reaching the milestone of scoring 100 goals in the Bundesliga(he’s currently at 98). In fact, he is currently BVB’s third most lethal goal-scorer in the club’s history, with only two club legends in Michael Zorc and Manfred Burgsmuller, bettering his tally of 141 goals.
Aubameyang could be an interesting addition to Arsenal, who will desperately lack the attacking quality, should Ozil and Sanchez leave this January. While he’s definitely not a direct replacement for Alexis Sanchez, his sheer pace coupled with his lethal goal-scoring prowess could help Arsenal in the offensive department.
Furthermore, the attacking duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette could be something to watch out for, since both the players possess a remarkable goal-scoring prowess. The former Lyon striker was highly linked with Dortmund as the perfect Aubameyang replacement, prior to his move to Arsenal last summer.
Lacazette has already hit the ground running in the Premier League this season, scoring eight goals and provide four assists and there’s every chance that Aubameyang could also replicate his Bundesliga form in the Premier League.
The Gabonese International has thrived under the possession-based football of Borussia Dortmund in recent years, particularly under the Thomas Tuchel era and considering the fact that Arsenal are also a club who likes to create a lot of chances in the final third, Aubameyang will definitely find it easier to score goals in the Premier League.
