Arsenal are eyeing Boca Juniors winger, Cristian Pavon as a likely replacement for Alexis Sanchez at the end of the current season. A transfer move might get agreed upon with the wide man spending a short-term loan spell at Argentina for the remainder of the season.
The plight of Sanchez with Arsenal has given rise to hundreds of controversies ever since the 2016-17 season ended. A sixth-place finish in the Premier League automatically directed the club to the lower tier of European competition, the Europa League. This did not sit well with the Chilean who in his tenure at the Emirates expected at least one major trophy with the club.
Therefore talks of extending the current contracts arose Sanchez declined, and all media outlets went into a frenzy of speculation and confusion over his future.
The 29-year-old clearly has lost all his love for the Gunners with a number of lackluster performances in recent weeks. His energy, flair and quality to create chances, as well as score from anywhere, is what set him apart from the herd. However, judging by his body language and lack of enthusiasm, Wenger might have to settle for a nominal fee and send him on his way or worse, lose him for nothing by the time the season ends.
Manchester City are heavy favorites to land his services and a free transfer will definitely earn him a lucrative deal probably making him the most expensive player in the Premier League.
Pavon is one of the hottest properties in Argentina right now. He plies his trade for Boca Juniors, a team with a history of producing great players. A supremely confident player on the ball, Pavon can appear from either of the wings or even in the lone striker role. He has been linked with a move to many major clubs in Europe. However, it might be a jet from the Emirates that whisks him away to England.
He has scored 3 times while registering 6 assists in 12 appearances for the Argentine outfit and is lighting the Primera Division up with his skills from the wide areas.
There will be a slight sense of skepticism around the move, however. There have been many a talented South Americans who have sailed across the Atlantic only to find that the European style of football is not for them. Let’s hope Pavon can overcome that barrier, should he make the move.
Arsene Wenger is well known around the football world to pick his talents very wisely and might just be able to turn Pavon into a superstar just like his predecessor in an Arsenal jersey.
