Arsenal may look to secure the services of Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in their bid to replace Alexis Sanchez. According to recent reports, the Red Devils have offered Arsenal the chance to secure the signature of their Armenian midfielder, although a major stumbling block to that deal could be the 28-year-old’s high wages, which is being reported to be around £200,000 a week. It is also being claimed that Jose Mourinho’s side has made a last-ditch attempt to hijack the Manchester City deal in pursuit of the Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez’s signature and has already tabled a £25m for the Chilean international.
Some sources in the English press have suggested that Sánchez has already come to an agreement with regards to personal terms worth around £250,000 a week with the Citizens of Manchester, with Pep Guardiola’s side having tabled a £20m offer for the 29‑year‑old this week. The Gunners are yet to respond to their offer but it is now believed that Jose Mourinho’s United have joined in on the hunt with a bid in the region of £25m for Sanchez’s services.
It looks like any deal for Sanchez might involve a potential swap deal involving Mkhitaryan which might be enough to convince the north London club to do business with United.
The Armenian attacking midfielder has featured in 22 matches for the Red Devils this season and has scored two goals and made 6 assists so far in all competitions. He made a terrific start to the Premier League campaign but has since faded and has now fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. A potential move to the Emirates might help him reignite his career in English football under manager Arsene Wenger and he will definitely suit Arsenal’s style of play going into the second half of the season.
The Gunners has recently fallen off the pace in the race to secure Champions League football and are currently occupying 6th place in the Premier League standings, five points behind 4th placed Liverpool. They are in dire need of replacements for two of their biggest superstars in the form of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who are set to leave either this month or at the end of the season when their contracts are up at Arsenal. The addition of a creative player is a must for Arsene Wenger and the possible transfer of Mkhitaryan could soften the blow of losing Sanchez in this January transfer window.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Armenian captain who has scored 25 goals in 70 matches for his country.
