Thomas Christiansen has done a decent job at Leeds United especially given the fact that when he took over from previous manager Garry Monk, many fans were sceptical. The Spaniard had guided Apoel Nicosia of Cyprus to the last 16 of the Europa League and to the Cypriot first division title last season before taking over at Leeds United.
When the Spaniard joined the club, the board was hoping that Christiansen would be able to imbibe his foreign learning of football tactics and management into the English side and help the club clinch promotion.
Leeds got off to a flying start to their new season. Fast flowing football that was easy on the eye and a defence that seemed solid enough to shut out opponents for multiple clean sheets meant that Christiansen had had a dream debut to life in England.
Things rarely go smoothly forever, especially if you are a manager in an English league. Christiansen saw his side lose form drastically and crash to three consecutive defeats. Such disastrous drop in form shocked everyone who thought Leeds United would make a charge for the title this season.
The team showed signs of weaknesses as players failed to perform day in day out and as the league progressed Leeds descended down the play-off spots. However, the Whites appear to come back on track lately with just one defeat in the last six matches resulting in them now occupying the sixth spot in the Championship table.
Even though the situation at Elland Road is no longer gloomy there appears to be a fresh problem to deal with. Leeds’ first-team defender Luke Ayling has been injured and the player has who went under the knife this January is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
With Ayling gone, it is being reported that Leeds are now in contention to sign Luton defender James Justin. The highly rated under-20 England international has been in fine form for some time now. He made 39 appearances for them last season and has gone on to make another 15 more this season scoring two more goals in the process.
Nottingham Forest had several offers for the youngster rejected last summer and Luton who want to hold on to their defender this time as well will face a sterner test with Leeds desperate to add a fullback to their squad.
