Manchester City will travel to Bristol to take on Lee Johnson’s Bristol City in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night. The Citizens have a narrow 2-1 advantage from the first leg at the Etihad Stadium when they secured a hard-fought win through a second-half goal from Kevin De Bruyne and an injury-time winner by Sergio Aguero. Pep Guardiola’s side recently bounced back against Newcastle United after suffering their first domestic defeat of the season at Anfield versus Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
However, the Robins could prove to be a big stumbling block after their impressive showing at the Etihad Stadium on the first leg. A draw would be enough for City to ensure qualification into the finals of the League Cup. Although, it would be easier said than done with Bristol City flying high in the Championship and currently sitting in 5th place in the league table.
Pep Guardiola is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation on the night and may recall the likes of Eliaquim Mangala into his starting lineup.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Bristol City
Defence
Claudio Bravo is expected to start in goal for the Citizens and he might be protected by a back four consisting of John Stones and Eliaquim Mangala in central defence while the Brazilian full-back Danilo starts on the right side of the defence and Alexander Zinchenko takes his place at left-back.
Pep Guardiola’s side conceded a goal against Bristol in the first-leg but will be hoping that his defenders can keep a clean sheet on the night which will ensure their progression through to the Carabao Cup final.
Midfield
The midfield trio of Kevin De Bruyne, Yaya Toure and İlkay Gündoğan might be deployed at the centre of the park as the Premier League leaders look to take no risks for this clash against the Robins.
The Belgian midfielder, De Bruyne has been in sensational form this season and has shown wonderful creativity at the heart of City’s midfield. He will once again be expected to deliver the goods on Tuesday night.
Attack
The front three of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane may be deployed in the opposition half on Tuesday night with Pep Guardiola taking nothing for granted in their quest to achieve a quadruple this season. Sane and Sterling have been a key part of City’s success this season while Aguero comes into this clash at the back of a hattrick against Newcastle United on Saturday.
