Tottenham Hotspur will entertain AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday at the back of a disappointing home draw in the Premier League versus West Ham United on Thursday night. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will look to rally his troops for this match against the Dons with the FA Cup being the most realistic silverware that the North Londoners can hope for this season.
The Premier League title race is all but over and there is some fierce competition in the Champions League so a strong run in the FA Cup can go along way in pleasing the Spurs supporters. The League One side will keep their fingers crossed that they can pull off a major upset when they make the short trip to Wembley Stadium. It’s not every day that Neal Ardley’s men get a chance to play in one of football’s most prestigious grounds so the occasion will be a memorable one for the south-west London outfit.
The two teams have not met since Spurs’ 2-0 victory over the Dons at White Hart Lane back on 22 April 2000. The recent history of the fixture doesn’t bode well for AFC Wimbledon fans as the North London outfit are unbeaten in their last seven encounters against the Kingsmeadow based side. It is expected that Pochettino will alter his formation to suit all the changes he makes for this clash. The Argentine manager might give most of his first-team members a rest with some of the fringe players getting a chance to shine on Sunday.
4-3-2-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face AFC Wimbledon
Defence
Michel Vorm is set to make a return to the starting lineup in place of Hugo Lloris and might be shielded by a back four of Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen in central defence while Ben Davies continues in the left-back position and Kieran Trippier starts on the right-hand side of the backline.
Spurs have only conceded 21 goals in 22 league games so it is expected that they will keep it tight at the back versus their League One opponents.
Midfield
The midfield three might consist of Harry Winks, Victor Wanyama, and Mousa Dembele on Sunday. The trio will be tasked with protecting their back four while also providing some creativity for their attacking players to thrive on.
Attack
Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko might play in the shoulders of Fernando Llorente, who will lead the Spurs attack up top. The Spanish striker scored in his last Tottenham start away at Swansea City so his manager will be hoping that he can make the difference once again in this London derby.
