The FA Cup tie between Manchester United vs Yeovil Town will see many United fans glued to their television screens for a very specific reason. Despite all its legacy and importance in England, the initial stages of the FA Cup are not the most followed matches in the world. The big boys of the English Premier League face the teams at the lower end of the spectrum and the results are more often than not one-sided. Barring a few upsets, the matches do not have much to offer.
Hence it will be a different occasion this weekend when the Red Devils come up against Yeovil Town. The reason for this is the expected debut of United’s latest signing Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean was on the tail-end of his contract at Arsenal and was expected to leave the Gunners this January. Manchester City was believed to be the front-runners for the winger but Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward hijacked the deal by offering Arsenal Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Sanchez. The deal for Sanchez was sweetened by a huge wage and a glaring bonus.
The Chilean has also been given the iconic number 7 jersey at United and will be expected to be one of the superstars at the club. The fixture against Yeovil Town will be United’s first official match after having secured the Sanchez deal. Jose’s men are out of the league cup while the prospect of a title chase in the league looks unlikely. Hence the FA Cup will provide Mourinho with a chance to swoop a domestic trophy.
However, with the top teams having another round of Premier League fixtures coming up in a few days’ time, Mourinho will not want to risk his first-team stars in a match against Yeovil. This might delay the debut of Alexis Sanchez and the Chilean will be expected to only have a bench role.
Here is how Mourinho will look to line-up his team for the match.
Formation: 4-3-2-1
Defence
Sergio Romero is likely to be in goal. Axel Tuanzebe is expected to play as a right back with Matteo Darmian as the left back. The centre-back pairing is expected to be Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo.
Midfield
The midfield base is expected to be made of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini and young Scott McTominay. Anthony Martial along with Jesse Lingard can be expected on the wings.
Attack
Marcos Rashford is likely to lead the line for the Red Devils.
