Major League Soccer giants LA Galaxy are among a whole of clubs vying for Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack. According to a recent report in the English press, the Scottish forward is attracting interest from a number of clubs which include the Los Angeles based outfit. The 31-year-old veteran is currently out on loan at Melbourne City in Australia but is set to return to Villa on Friday, January 26. Both clubs are in negotiations to extend his loan stay but has so far been unable to reach an agreement to let him stay in the Australian league for the remainder of this campaign.
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has no intentions to utilise McCormack’s services at Villa Park but, as the Scotsman started the campaign at the West Midlands club and has gone on to play for Melbourne, he can’t be allowed to make a switch to another British club under the third club rule. The next best opportunity for him would be to opt to play football in the Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy, Orlando City and Colorado Rapids all interested in bringing him to play football in the United States ahead of their new season.
It is being reported that McCormack would be open to make a move to the United States if the Villans fail to agree on a deal with Melbourne City this month. He has been in terrific form in Australia where he has scored 14 goals in 16 matches for Melbourne City which includes seven goals in his last five league outings.
Aston Villa are currently in 4th place in the English Championship table with a total tally of 50 points in 28 league matches. They are well in contention of securing a playoff spot at the end of the season but Steve Bruce might push his side to earn an automatic promotion spot by chasing down second-placed Derby County, who are just three points ahead of them.
The West Midlands club has scored 42 goals in 28 league matches but could do with some attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window. The Villans can now look to utilise McCormack rather than loan him out again, especially considering his sensational form in the A-League.
The former Scotland international has scored 14 goals in 18 matches for Melbourne City this season across all competitions which makes him an ideal option to get a run of matches at Villa Park. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the veteran forward.
