Swansea City will play hosts to Liverpool on Monday night at the back of an excellent midweek FA Cup third round home victory versus Championship high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Swans has done well under new manager Carlos Carvalhal and has lost just once in five matches since his appointment last month. They will entertain Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium looking to pull off a major upset. The Merseyside club has recently beaten the unbeaten league leaders, Manchester City at Anfield last weekend and come into this clash with a lot of confidence. On paper, it is going to be a David versus Goliath battle but the beautiful game of football is not played on paper.
The Welsh club will be desperate to get a result on Monday night as a win could take them closer to safety. However, a heavy defeat could leave their season in tatters. The recent history of the fixture has seen both teams share two victories each in their previous four league encounters. Carlos Carvalhal is expected to opt for a 3-4-3 formation and may make quite a number of changes to his side that progressed into the fourth round of the FA Cup in midweek. Both Tammy Abraham and Renato Sanchez are major doubts for this contest.
3-4-3 Swansea City Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Łukasz Fabiański is set to start in goal for the Swans and might be shielded by a backline of Mike van der Hoorn, Kyle Bartley and Alfie Mawson. The Swansea defenders have shipped in 5 goals in 5 matches since new manager Carlos Carvalhal took charge and the Portuguese manager will be hoping that his back three can keep the fluid Liverpool attack at bay on Monday night.
Midfield
The midfield duo of Samuel Clucas and Ki Sung-Yeung might be deployed at the centre of the park with Martin Olsson operating on the left flank and Kyle Naughton starting on the right side of the midfield.
The performance of these four men will be key towards deciding whether the home team will have any chance against the mighty Reds of Merseyside at the Liberty Stadium.
Attack
The Swansea front three will consist of Nathan Dyer, Wilfried Bony and Jordan Ayew. All three attackers have recently put in some stellar displays for the Swans and Carlos Carvalhal will be hoping that they can cause some problems to the leaky Reds defence that has conceded 28 goals in 23 league matches.
Jordan Ayew has been the Welsh club’s best performer this season with 7 goals and 3 assists already to his name across all competitions. It remains to be seen if he can get his name on the scoresheet against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Monday.
