Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has reportedly attracted the attention of Inter Milan. According to a reliable report in the English press, the Serie A giants are interested in securing the services of the English forward on loan for the remainder of the season. The Milan based outfit has registered their interest with the Merseyside club for the 28-year-old striker’s signature, who has found opportunities limited at Anfield this season.
Sturridge has fallen down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp in this campaign mainly due to the incredible form of Roberto Firmino in the Liverpool first-team. The German manager also fancies Dominic Solanke to play second fiddle and come off the bench when required, which has limited Sturridge’s chances even more. It was previously revealed in a report coming out of Merseyside that the Reds were willing to offload Sturridge in the January transfer window but only on a permanent deal rather than on a temporary basis. However, Inter Milan are reluctant to pay the Reds’ £30m asking price for the 28-year-old forward and would rather take him on loan and pay a fee while covering all of his wages.
The Liverpool outcast returned to full training at Melwood last week after struggling with a hamstring problem recently. He has only made five starts for the Reds in this campaign. However, Sturridge has scored 64 goals and made 24 assists in 133 appearances for Liverpool during his career which makes him one of the club’s most prolific goal-getters in history.
The England international has already requested Jurgen Klopp to let him leave Merseyside this month in order for him to get more first-team opportunities that might help him push for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off later this year. It is believed that the German manager wants Sturridge to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place in the starting eleven but won’t stand in his way if a suitable offer comes in that matches the club’s valuation of the player. Some sources even claim that the English forward has also caught the eyes of Southampton and West Ham United.
Sturridge has made 14 appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists across all competitions. On his day, the English forward still has the potential to be a match-winner which Inter Milan are looking to utilise. The Reds are in no hurry to part ways with their prized asset but it would beneficial for the player if he can overcome his recent injury concerns and return to playing football regularly which will aid him in his quest to play a part in the World Cup for England.
Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the former Chelsea and Manchester City forward.
