Danny Wilson has sealed a move to Colorado Rapids from Rangers. According to a reliable report, the Scottish defender has signed for Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids on a permanent transfer. It is being reported that the MLS outfit have signed defender Danny Wilson from Scottish Premiership side Rangers.
The 26-year-old will take up an international roster spot for the United States side dependent on receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa. It was earlier claimed that Wilson was making his way to Colorado. The transfer of the Scottish defender continues the US club’s offseason spending under general manager Padraig Smith and new coach Anthony Hudson which has now seen them bring in eight new players in recent times. Wilson is their latest new centre-back acquisition after the successful transfer of Ipswich Town defender Tommy Smith.
Wilson began his career at Rangers before moving to Premier League giants, Liverpool but unfortunately, failed to break into their first-team during his time in the top tier of English football. He was shipped out to Hearts in 2013 and made a return to Rangers in 2015 where he made 83 appearances across all competitions. He has featured in 15 matches for the Glaswegian side this season and has scored 3 goals while creating one assist before his move to Colorado in the last few days.
There is no doubt that his contribution will be missed at the Ibrox Stadium. Let’s take a look at an ideal replacement for the Scottish international, who has been capped 5 times for his nation.
Llyod Jones
The Liverpool Under 23 centreback has been in terrific form in the Premier League 2 and could be the ideal man to replace him at the Ibrox Stadium. The 22-year-old has made 11 appearances this season for the Reds Under 23 side and has got one assist to his name. He can operate on both the left and the right side of central defence and has all the makings of a future Scottish Premiership star. The Liverpool academy product has spent loan spells at Blackpool and Swindon Town before returning to Merseyside this season. However, he has failed to break into the Jurgen Klopp’s first-team this season and had to settle for a place in the Liverpool Under 23 side. A move to the Scottish giants Rangers will definitely help him take a step forward in his career.
Jones can read the game well and is a commanding presence in the backline. At 6 ft 2 inch tall, he has the height to be an aerial presence and make clearances to ease some pressure on his teammates.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Plymouth-born centreback and whether Rangers can find success after the recent departure of their prized defender Danny Wilson going into the next few seasons.
