Southampton has agreed on a fee to sign AS Monaco striker Guido Carrillo. According to a reliable report in the English media, the Saints have come to an agreement with the Ligue 1 club over the transfer of the Argentinian forward. It is being reported that the two clubs have agreed on a £19.1m [€22m] fee which will see the South American ace make a switch to the Premier League.
The Saints made their intentions clear in this January transfer window as they wanted to recruit a striker this month with Mauricio Pellegrino finally landing his number 1 striking target. The manager is a big admirer of the forward having previously worked with him in their home country of Argentina and rates the forward highly. He is finally set to get his man, who has featured in 22 matches for AS Monaco this season. However, he has only started in 2 of those 22 matches for the French club in Ligue 1.
Carrillo has scored 20 goals in 50 appearances for his current club since making a switch from Estudiantes in the summer of 2015. It remains to be seen if he can help Southampton in their fight to avoid relegation to the Championship going into the second half of their campaign. This is how Mauricio Pellegrino could line up with the Argentinian striker in their squad.
4-2-3-1 Southampton Predicted Lineup With Guido Carrillo In Their Starting Eleven
Defence
Alex McCarthy will start in goal for the Saints and might be shielded by a back four consisting of Jack Stephens and Wesley Hoedt in central defence while Cedric Soares operates at right-back and Ryan Bertrand takes his place on the left side of the backline.
Midfield
Oriol Romeu and Mario Lemina could be deployed as the holding midfielders in Mauricio Pellegrino’s first-team with the trio of James Ward-Prowse staring on the right, Dusan Tadic on the left flank while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg plays in the number 10 position.
Attack
Guido Carrillo will lead the lines for the Saints in the second half of the season. The Argentinian forward has featured in 24 matches for AS Monaco this season and has scored 8 goals and provided one assist in all competitions. The 26-year-old can be the solution to the Saints attacking problems so far in this Premier League campaign. Only time will tell if he can bang the goals in at the St. Mary’s Stadium to keep Southampton in the Premier Leauge for another season.
