Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are struggling to get into the top-4 of the points table this season and might have already turned their attention to the Europa League, as their only chance of Champions League football next season. But that has not stopped Arsene Wenger from trying to improve options in his squad.
The Gunners have already lost their talisman in Alexis Sanchez and are now in danger of losing yet another first-team player in Jack Wilshere.
The English midfielder, like Sanchez, is in his final few months of his contract at Emirates and it was expected that he would be sold this month. However, he has put in some decent performances this season, in the absence of Aaron Ramsey and the manager was confident of tying him down to a new deal.
However, reports from the Sun now claim that Wilshere is now tempted to quit England altogether, and could be moving to Turin, as Italian giants Juventus have emerged as a shock suitors for the 26-year old. He will not be sold on the cheap but should Wenger let him leave if an attractive offer arrives from the Juve?
With 159 Premier League appearances and 22 UCL appearances to add to 34 international appearances for England, Wilshere is an experienced midfielder, who has the potential to turn into a superstar. But now, he has turned 26 and is struggling to establish himself in the first team at his parent club.
He has 8 PL starts this season, where he has picked up a couple of assists and a goal. He also made five Europa appearances, standing as one of the best players for Arsenal in that competition.
The Gunners have already lost Francis Coquelin this month and are already in search of another midfielder. So letting Wilshere leave anytime soon could be suicidal.
The likes of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey might remain the first choice for Wenger but the manager has Mohamed Elneny as the only option in the senior side for the midfield roles if Wilshere is sold to Juventus.
Arsenal managed to pull off a decent deal for the Chilean winger, who brought playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Emirates this month. If Juventus are ready to offer a player in exchange of Wilshere, it could make sense for Arsenal.
But at the moment, to save their season, Wenger should run the risk and let his contract run down but should do all it takes to keep him at the club beyond this month, as the next few months are one of the most important months in the recent history of the club.
His injury history is also a problem for the Gunners but do you think Arsenal should sell Wilshere if the right offer arrives?
