Leeds United are set to reunite with their midfielder Ouasim Bouy after his loan spell in Spain has been cut short. Spanish club Cultural Leonesa have confirmed on their official website that loanee Ouasim Bouy is set to return to his parent club this month. The 24-year-old used to play for Juventus before making a move to Leeds United in the summer.
During his time with the reigning Italian champions, he has already experienced several loan spells at Brescia, Hamburg, Panathinaikos, PEC Zwolle and Palermo before finally leaving Italy on a permanent transfer. Upon his arrival in West Yorkshire, Bouy was immediately sent out on loan by the Peacocks to Cultural Leonesa, a club that plies their trade in the second tier of Spanish football.
However, the midfielder has failed to secure regular first-team football during his loan spell in Spain this season, making just four appearances for the club across all competitions. It has led to his early departure from the club and the Spanish side has officially confirmed that they have terminated his loan deal with immediate effect. Bouy will now return to Elland Road to try and make a breakthrough in Thomas Christiansen’s Leeds side. Although, whether he makes it into the Peacocks’ first-team remains to be seen after his recent struggles in Spain.
During Bouy’s arrival at Leeds United over the summer, Director of Football Victor Orta told the club’s official website that he was delighted to secure the player’s signature, but the 24-year-old midfielder needed more playing time if he had to make a breakthrough and reach the level that Leeds were looking for. Hence, it was decided that Bouy would go out on loan but he was unable to get regular game-time in Spain which has led to his early departure from Cultural Leonesa.
Leeds United are currently sitting in 6th place in the Championship standings in their quest to secure a playoff position this season. They have conceded 28 goals in 26 league matches and are in need of defensive reinforcements in January. The premature return of Bouy seems like a new signing for the Peacocks but only time will tell whether he features in Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen’s plans going into the second half of the season.
Bouy has featured in four matches for Cultural Leonesa so far in this campaign so if given the chance at Leeds, his lack of game-time may come back to haunt the Peacocks in their attempts to secure a return back to the Premier League. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Ouasim Bouy and whether he can be a success in West Yorkshire.
