Arsenal are plotting a move for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. According to recent reports in the Italian media, the Gunners are moving in for the Croatian international with Inter Milan looking to sell him this month. It is believed that the Italian giants are hoping to part ways with their prized asset with Everton and Arsenal both interested in securing the player’s signature. The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at San Siro under manager Luciano Spalletti this season and is among a number of players being sacrificed in the club’s attempts to cope with Financial Fair Play.
Brozovic signed for Inter Milan in the winter transfer window of 2016 from Dinamo Zagreb for a reported fee in the region of €8m and it is understood that his price-tag has doubled now. Some sources have claimed that the Gunners have made contact with Inter on Thursday over the possibility of signing the Croatian international. It is being suggested that Sam Allardyce’s side has offered €16m (£14m), which is half of his release clause and it won’t be enough to prise him away to Merseyside. The La Liga duo of Sevilla and Valencia has also been linked with the midfielder but a move to the Premier League seems more likely at this point in time.
The 25-year-old has scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists in 15 Serie A appearances for Inter Milan this season. He has also earned 32 international caps for the Croatian national team and has found the back of the net six times for his nation.
Arsene Wenger’s side find themselves in 6th place in the Premier League standings, five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool who occupies the final Champions League spot. Wenger could do with some quality additions this month as he prepares his Gunners team to fight in three different competitions going into the second half of their campaign.
The addition of Brozovic will undoubtedly bolster his midfield options and he could turn out to be a clever addition if the north Londoners are able to snap him up before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of this month.
With Alexis Sanchez departing the club for a move to Manchester United and Mesut Ozil’s future yet to be sorted out, the potential arrival of the Croatian midfielder along with the capture of Henrikh Mkhitaryan might soften the blow of losing Sanchez. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Serie A midfielder and whether he ends up in north London this month.
