AS Roma are interested in securing the services of Celtic forward Moussa Dembélé this month. According to recent reports in the Italian media, the Serie A giants are looking to land the French striker’s signature in this transfer window. The 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic Park and was left on the bench for the Glaswegian club’s last two matches.
The assistant manager of Celtic FC suggested earlier this week that their star striker could leave the club in this January transfer window. Sources in the Italian capital have now reported that AS Roma are looking to replace their forward Edin Dzeko, with the Bosnian international close to making a move to Premier League champions Chelsea. The sporting director of Roma is believed to be a big fan of Dembele’s talents dating back to his spell with Sevilla. The La Liga club tried to sign Dembele last summer but was unsuccessful in his attempts.
It is also being reported that the Premier League trio of Crystal Palace, Everton and Stoke City has shown interest in the former Fulham forward who has found the back of the net 40 times in 70 appearances for the Scottish Premiership leaders.
Celtic are currently leading the Scottish Premiership by 11 points and seems to be in the driver’s seat for another league title in the top tier of Scottish football. The 21-year-old has contributed to their recent success, scoring 8 goals and making 3 assists in 21 appearances this season across all competitions. Dembele has been a superstar at Celtic Park in the last few years since his move from Fulham in the summer of 2016. He was a regular feature under Brendan Rodgers last season but has struggled in this campaign as the Frenchman has been plagued with injuries. Leigh Griffiths has taken his place in Rodgers’ starting eleven and has grabbed his opportunity with both hands, which has made it hard for Dembele to make a comeback into the first-team.
However, the Scottish giants can’t afford to lose someone of the calibre of Dembele in the near future, unless a big money offer comes in for their prized asset. Dembele has the potential to be a Celtic legend and at 21, he still has his peak years ahead of him. It would be a shame if they lose his services to one of the European heavyweights in the coming months.
Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the French forward and whether Celtic can fend off strong interest from clubs all across Europe in this transfer window.
