Stoke City left-back Josh Tymon is set to leave on a loan deal to League One club Milton Keynes Dons for the remainder of the season. According to recent reports in the English media, the Potters are prepared to let the teenage fullback go out on a six-month loan deal to gain some experience in the third tier of English football. The young defender signed for Hull City last summer and will now leave the club temporarily to continue with his development and grow as a player in Milton Keynes.
The 18-year-old has featured in three Premier League matches for the Potters since he penned a five-year deal last summer, which includes starts versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, he had to face a difficult time at the bet365 Stadium recently as the club slumped down into the relegation zone. Stoke have since signed defender Kostas Stafylidis from Augsburg to increase competition for their first choice left-back Erik Pieters, which has freed up Tymon to go out on loan before the transfer comes to a close at the end of this month.
In an interview after making his full debut for Stoke City in their 3-0 defeat at Chelsea, Tymon was quoted to have said, “I’m in a similar boat to how I was at Hull last season, a fringe player waiting for that chance. But I’m still young, not a lot of players are playing Premier League football at 18.”
The England under-20s international was previously accused of opting for the wrong move when he made a switch from his boyhood club Hull City to join the Potters. The Tigers’ vice chairman, Ehab Allam, once said:“I made what I felt were sensible financial offers, but the player or his agent felt they could do better. That’s fair enough. No hard feelings, but I personally feel it was the wrong decision.”
The Potters are currently sitting in 17th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 23 points in 24 league matches. Paul Lambert’s side are in real danger of getting relegated at the end of this season. The departure of the youngster on loan could help their cause in the long-run but his talents would be a big miss if their squad is struck with injuries going into the second half of their campaign. Stoke face a do or die battle and are in dire need of some favourable results in the coming weeks. However, if they can stay up in the Premier League, Tymon could come back stronger and force his way into their first-team in the top tier of English football.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the talented youngster.
