Real Madrid are lining up a move for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. According to recent reports in the English media, the Galacticos are eager to make a move for Red Devils keeper and are preparing a £100m offer for the Spaniard. The United keeper has been linked with the Spanish international in the past and they got close to landing his signature on the deadline day of the summer transfer window in 2015. The deal fell through in the dying embers of the window with the Spanish club willing to go back for the player again in this ongoing transfer period.
Some sources are claiming that the La Liga outfit has not given up on their pursuit of the 27-year-old’s signature and are planning a £500m raid to recruit some of the Premier League’s best talents with De Gea being one of the shortlisted candidates on that list. It has been revealed that Harry Kane and Eden Hazard are the other two players who are gathering the interest of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
United are trying their best to keep hold of De Gea’s services at Old Trafford and have begun talks over a new long-term contract which could possibly make him one of the highest paid players at the club. However, if the Spaniard does end up leaving the club in the near future, let’s take a look at three potential replacements for Jose Mourinho to consider in the near future.
Jack Butland
The Stoke City keeper has impressed for the Potters in the last few seasons and has been solid at the back for the Staffordshire outfit. Although, he has conceded a massive 45 goals in 22 appearances at the bet365 Stadium with only three clean sheets to his name across all competitions. The English keeper has proven his worth in the top tier of English football over the last few years and could be a major candidate to step up to the next level and be Manchester United’s Number 1 goalkeeper for the coming years.
Timo Horn
The 24-year-old was in terrific form last season in the Bundesliga for FC Koln and has performed well for the German club in this campaign as well. He has played in 29 matches for the Cologne side in all competitions, conceding 44 goals but keeping six clean sheets so far. Jose Mourinho could the ideal mentor to get the best out of the Bundesliga star at Old Trafford in their efforts to bridge the gap between themselves and their ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City in the coming seasons.
Mattia Perin
The Italian goalkeeper has lit up the Serie A with some brilliant performances in goal for Genoa. He has made 22 appearances for the Italian side this term, conceding just 24 goals and keeping 8 shutouts along the way. He will be the perfect fit to take up the goalkeeping duties in Manchester for the Red Devils in the near future.
