AS Monaco midfielder, Fabinho is set to leave the Ligue 1 club as he seeks a new challenge in his career. According to a reliable report in the English media, the Brazilian defensive midfielder is looking to leave French football in pursuit of a fresh adventure abroad. The Ligue 1 club’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev told the media back in October that they will consider parting ways with Fabinho in the summer following “strong” interest from Manchester United and Manchester City in the previous transfer window.
Fabinho witnessed a plethora of talent depart the club last summer, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko all leaving for big-money in search of greener pastures. After spending four years at the Stade Louis II, the Brazilian is now eager to take up a new challenge, if the right offer comes in for him, as he looks to develop his career and take his game to the next level.
When asked to address his future, Fabinho said,
“If a move to a new league or a club with a bigger structure and bigger expectations, I would be interested.
“My time with Monaco was good, but I feel my time here is coming to an end.
“I know that the club’s vision is to try to finish second and qualify for the Champions League, without counting on big-name players, but on young players.
“I believe I have gone through this process. I arrived as an unknown, I made my name at the club, won things – but maybe I need a new challenge.”
Fabinho was an integral figure at Monaco last season – helping the Ligue 1 outfit earn their first league title in 17 years and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 53 points in 24 league matches. On any other campaign, the Red Devils would be well in contention of winning the league but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them struggle to keep pace in the title race. The Citizens of Manchester are leading the Premier League by a mammoth 12 points with the red half of the town desperately trying to play catch up with their ‘noisy neighbours’.
Mourinho secured the services of Alexis Sanchez earlier in the current transfer window and the Portuguese manager could look to bring in a new face at the centre of the park to bolster his midfield options. Fabinho has featured in 30 matches for AS Monaco this term, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions. The addition of the 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder could go a long way to bridge the gap between themselves and their rivals Manchester City in the coming years.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils are successful in their pursuit of the South American’s signature.
