A well-fought matchup between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Millwall saw both sides score goals as the match ended 2-2.
The hosts broke the deadlock early in the first half with Lee Gregory’s right footed shot tucked in towards the bottom left corner. But this just ignited the fire under Nuno Espirito Santo’s men as they kept pushing for the equaliser. Right after a few minutes into the second half Diogo Jota fired in the first goal with Romain Saiss getting the second in the 56th minute.
However, Millwall refused to go away even with the opposition maintaining majority of the possession. Their 22-year-old defender, Jake Cooper headed in the second equaliser from close range to force the league leaders to drop points away from home after almost 2 months.
Wolves Player Ratings:
John Ruddy – 6/10
Had a busy day in between the sticks but was outdone by the 2 Millwall goals.
Conor Coady – 6/10
He performed his duties well in the defensive back three but was a bit more shaky than usual. Got himself booked in the 69th minute.
Willy Boly – 5/10
Not the usual Boly we expect to see in pressure situations and had a tough time handling the Millwall attack.
Ryan Benett – 7/10
Was the best out the trio today and read the runs of Tom Elliot and Lee Gregory quite well.
Matt Doherty – 7/10
He had a significant presence on the right-hand side and was a handful for James Meredith. Could have done better defensively though.
Romain Saiss – 8/10
A dominating display from the midfield position as he completely took over the Wolves attack linking up with every teammate. Gave his side the lead with a terrific strike from outside the box.
Ruben Neves – 6/10
Got overshadowed by the dominance of Saiss today with very limited touches on the ball for a midfielder. Put in a decent shift.
Barry Douglas – 7/10
Worked tirelessly to cover the entire left flank throughout the game.
Ivan Cavaleiro – 4/10
He was taken off right after the first half due to an injury. Could not find his feet for the Wolves today.
Diogo Jota – 8/10
The Portuguese was in outstanding form for Nuno Santo’s men today with his clever movement off the ball. Almost got the better of Shaun Hutchinson but his penalty claim got denied by the referee. Even without the equaliser, he put up a winning display.
Helder Costa – 7/10
A missed one-on-one chance might earn himself a few harsh words from the manager. Got the assist for the equaliser.
Substitutes :
Leo Bonatini – 5/10
Came on for Cavaleiro but did not bring his shooting boots today.
Roderick Miranda – 6/10
Adjusted to the pace of the game well even after coming on at a very crucial stage of the game.
