Wolverhampton Wanderers notched up another good win against Bristol City in their last game of the year. Danny Batth’s 14th minuted red card for a double-footed challenge on Hordur Magnusson set the Wolves up for a tough match, which they eventually won by 2-1.
A slick passing move resulted in Jamie Paterson squaring the ball to Reid who was left unmarked and give the Robins the second half lead.
But it turned into a 10 men fight when Frank Fielding earned himself a sending off too 10 minutes after Bobby Reid’s goal.
And the Wolves converted the free kick opportunity with a deflected shot and got the equaliser.
Ryan Benett initially brought on to fill the void left by Batth turned out to be the difference maker in the 94th minute with a header from Barry Douglas’ freekick.
A thrilling matchup saw the hosts drop below Derby County in the playoff spots and confirm the dominance of Wolves in the EFL Championship so far this season.
Wolves Player Ratings :
John Ruddy – 7/10
Very well tested in between the sticks Ruddy put up a domineering display.
Willy Boly – 6/10
Was firm with his tackles and held the back line quite well.
Conor Coady – 6/10
Solidified the back line even after going one man down. Did not allow Bobby Reid much space to operate even with the Robins controlling majority of the possession.
Danny Batth – 3/10
A silly challenge which could have cost his side the game today. Sent off.
Matt Doherty – 6/10
Tireless running from the right on both ends of the pitch and earned his side the free kick which led to their first goal.
Barry Douglas – 8/10
Rightfully the man of the match with a strong display.
Ruben Neves – 5/10
A decent shift by the 20-year-old but could have linked up the plays better from the midfield area.
Romain Saiss – 7/10
Another impressive showing by the Moroccan as he terrorized the opposition defence throughout the game.
Helder Costa – 5/10
Not the best performance as he got taken off at the hour mark after failing to affect the game offensively. Had quite a few loose touches on the ball and none of his shots really connected on the goal.
Diogo Jota – 6/10
Pestered the opposition with a lot of backdoor runs and won a few free kicks for his side. Almost assisted Cavaleiro to a second goal right after the equaliser.
Leo Bonatini – 4/10
Unfortunately had to be taken off after the red card to Batth.
Substitutes :
Ryan Bennett – 7/10
A solid display by the Englishman. Adjusted to the pace of the game very well and was very disciplined at the back. The goal just puts him over the top.
Ivan Cavaleiro – 6/10
Came on to change the momentum of the game completely for the Wolves. Missed a couple of chances but overall had a positive showing. Disappointed to not get the goal.
Bright Enobakhare – NA
