West Ham United are set to lose out on Steven N’Zonzi but has identified Hibernian midfielder John McGinn as an ideal alternative. Some sources are claiming that the Hammers are ready to make a move for the Scottish international when the transfer window opens in January. It is being reported that West Ham boss David Moyes is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old Hibernian midfielder who has been tipped to be able to cut the mustard in the Premier League. They have to cough up £4m to convince the Scottish Premiership club to part ways with their prized asset. McGinn is also being tracked by Celtic who are now set to enter the race for his signature.
The former Manchester United manager has identified that his West Ham midfield needs strengthening in the January transfer window with veteran midfielder Mark Noble now sidelined with an injury. It seems that the Scottish midfielder will be a perfect fit for the Hammers as they fight to save themselves from a possible relegation going into the new year.
McGinn has made 26 appearances for Hibernian in all competitions and has scored 4 goals and made 4 assists so far this season. He is also highly versatile and can play in a number of positions across the midfield.
West Ham United are in deep trouble in the Premier League following their bitter defeat at home to Newcastle United on Saturday. The Hammers are currently hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th place, just a point above Bournemouth. If they are unable to turn their fortunes for the better soon, they run the risk of getting caught in a relegation dogfight in the second half of the season. David Moyes will be looking to recruit cleverly next month as it can make or break the East London club’s season.
McGill will definitely be able to add a lot of dynamism to this static West Ham midfield and might be partnered with Mark Noble at the centre of the park if he does put pen to paper on a deal with the Hammers next month.
He has a knack for scoring goals as evidenced by his record in this campaign and has also earned 5 international caps for the Scotland national team. It remains to be seen whether David Moyes is successful in his attempts to fend off stiff competition from Celtic in the hunt for McGill’s signature.
