West Ham United are looking to secure the services of South Korean international and Swansea City midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung. A report in the English press claims that the Hammers are plotting a move for the Swansea midfielder along with his team-mate Alfie Mawson. The South Korean is out of contract in the summer of 2018 and will be free to move to a club of his choosing.
The 28-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Welsh club but is yet to find the net this season. It is believed that West Ham boss David Moyes is an admirer and sees him as a holding midfielder who can keep the ball while protecting his backline for the Hammers.
Since the arrival of Moyes, West Ham has improved defensively but has struggled to create enough chances in front of goal recently as evidenced by their defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup last week. Ki has earned 97 international caps for South Korea and has scored 9 goals for his country. He is technically gifted and possesses a habit of unlocking defences with his passing. The midfielder is also a threat on dead ball situations which makes him an ideal candidate for this Hammers team.
West Ham United suffered back to back defeats to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and Newcastle United in the Premier League over the past week. They are in dire need of some quality additions in the January transfer window. David Moyes is looking for a midfielder who can create a spark in the Hammers’ midfield and the South Korean international fits the bill perfectly. He brings in a wealth of Premier League experience which can be crucial in West Ham’s fight to save themselves from a possible relegation.
The East London club are currently sitting just above the relegation zone in the Premier League table and find themselves in trouble due to their inability to get a string of results in quick succession. They go into the busy Christmas period hoping to pull away from the bottom three. However, it seems to be a difficult task going by their current form so Moyes would be hoping for a change in fortunes and the January transfer window could be his opportunity to pull the club out of relegation trouble in the second half of the season.
It remains to be seen whether West Ham can acquire the services of the South Korean international in an effort to save themselves from the drop.
