West Ham United are apparently free to recall defensive gem Reece Oxford back to England, who is out on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach. According to reports, his season-long loan deal had a special clause, which said that the defender had to appear in at least seven before the winter break, for Gladbach to have his services till the end of the season.
However, the West Ham wonderkid has featured in only three games this season. The youngster made his Bundesliga debut in October featuring as a substitute. That being said, however, he did start Gladbach’s last couple of matches, helping the club win their latest encounter against Hamburger SV.
Although there have been whispers about West Ham potentially selling off their defensive talent to Gladbach next summer, Oxford’s return to England in the January transfer window could be on the horizon. But should David Moyes take the option to recall Oxford back to West Ham?
West Ham United have struggled a lot, especially on the defensive front this season. The Hammers are currently 15th in the Premier League table – well below their expectation of finishing in the European places at the start of the season.
Only Stoke City and Watford have conceded more goals than West Ham this season, which evidently suggests the fact that their defence are in dire need of some solidity at the moment.
Even though the Hammers have responded rather well to the appointment of David Moyes, registering two victories in their last four matches, including a stunning win against defending champions Chelsea, the need of a defensive newcomer is clearly evident.
Players like James Collins, Winston Reid have been highly inconsistent this season. Therefore, the Scottish mastermind will be delighted to have a look at Reece Oxford.
Despite not featuring in enough games in these past few years, the 19-year-old is still regarded as one of England’s best defensive talents. The London-born defender has the talent as well as the tenacity to evolve as a top-notch defender in nigh future.
Previous head coach Slaven Bilic had a great admiration for the young defender and even demanded a fee of £20m. He insisted that West Ham would not allow a young player with the potential to leave on a cheap. Therefore, cashing in on the 19-year-old is definitely not an option for the London giants next summer and coach David Moyes will be desperate to have him at his disposal for the second half of the season.
