Watford are preparing themselves for life without their English forward, Troy Deeney with Everton reportedly interested in securing his services in the January transfer window. The striker has featured in 10 matches for the Hornets this season and has scored two goals. The 29-year-old has struggled in front of goal in this campaign and is now likely to depart the London club in search of more first-team football. On his day, his goal-scoring record is as good as anyone in the Premier League but the lack of consistency has resulted in Andre Gray taking his place in the Hornets’ starting eleven.
Marco Silva’s men are currently in 8th place in the Premier League standings and have scored 25 goals in 15 league matches. The Hornets might be able to ensure a top half finish if they can land a top goal-scorer in January.
With Watford set to lose Deeney in January, let’s take a look at these three options that Marco Silva can opt for to replace the forward at Vicarage Road.
Oumar Niasse
The striker has shown his brilliance for Everton this season. He has scored 5 goals in 7 Premier League appearances but it remains to be seen whether he is in manager Sam Allardyce’s plans. With Everton already looking to sign Watford’s Troy Deeney, it is only logical for the Hornets’ to opt for the Senegalese forward’s services in exchange.
A possible swap deal may be on the cards in January that will satisfy all parties. Marco Silva might be the man who can turn the 27-year-old forward into a Premier League poacher.
Ángel Rodríguez
The Getafe CF forward has been in lethal form in front of goal this season and has found the back of the net six times in 10 La Liga appearances. The 30-year-old is a highly experienced centre-forward and has plenty of La Liga experience under his belt. The only risk about this move is the fact that the Spanish striker has never experienced football outside Spain. However, he’s definitely a risk worth taking and can turn the Hornets’ fortune for the better.
Martin Harnik
The Bundesliga forward has turned into a veteran in Germany and has scored 5 goals and made one assist in his 14 appearances for Hamburg this season. The 30-year-old striker knows how to find the back of the net as evidenced by his goal-scoring record in Germany. He has bagged more than 100 goals in German football but like Angel Rodriguez, he will be a gamble for the Hornets as the Austrian has never experienced football outside Germany.
