Vincent Janssen’s long-standing struggle at Tottenham Hotspur might be coming to an end. The Dutch international was declared a flop as he found the net just times following his much-hyped transfer from AZ Alkmaar.
He battled it pretty hard to keep himself updated with the pros and cons of the Premier League but he miserably failed to do so. Spurs sent him to Fenerbahce on loan so if he could revive his form and he has done it but to some extent.
The 23-year-old has racked up two goals and four assists in eight starts which is not a bad statistics at all for a player who just managed two goals in the entire last season.
His goals scoring traits have triggered a lot of interest and according to reports, Napoli are monitoring the player. The Italian side are leading the Serie-A table and they would do it all in the January transfer window to hold their lead.
With Arkadiusz Milik injured Napoli currently only have Dries Mertens as an out and out centre-forward and the Italian side would require an extra pair of feet in the long run.
At Tottenham Janssen was used sparingly as Harry Kane stole all the limelight but at Fenerbahce, he has had a much bigger role so he has shown if he is given a good run of games he could come up with much better showings.
Spurs brought Fernando Llorente from Swansea City to ease the burden on Kane while Heung-Min Son can also be deployed in that role. So right now there are enough resources at the North London club to deal with the situation.
Janssen cost the club £17 m and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would like to recoup the maximum of that amount. In this inflated market, a club should be ready to invest this kind of money when it comes to bringing a young forward to the side.
Janssen’s contract is scheduled to run out in 2020 and the gaffer needs to take a call whether the forward deserves a chance or he should cash in on him. Janssen will come back at the end of the ongoing season and it remains to be seen how Pochettino deals with him.
At 23 year old he has a lot to learn and blocking his road would hurt his development. Napoli are believed to be very keen for him so Spurs should at least entertain their offer.
