Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation of Barcelona forward Luis Suarez. Some sources are claiming that the Uruguayan striker is wanted by the Spurs with ongoing speculation linking Antoine Griezmann with a move to Barcelona. The Atletico Madrid star might have caught the attention of the Catalans with Luis Suarez struggling to find form this season. However, the 30-year-old is ready to fight for his place at Barcelona even if Griezmann joins the club in the near future.
Atletico has recently submitted a report to FIFA with regards to an illegal approach made by the Catalans in pursuit of Griezmann’s signature, but it is understood that a move can still materialise. It is a real possibility that the Frenchman can take Suarez’s place in the Barcelona first-team. There have been growing reports emerging from the Spanish press regarding the Uruguayan’s situation at the club and one report has suggested that Tottenham has been in touch with Barcelona over a possible transfer for the former Liverpool striker. Spurs have registered their interest in the player and would swoop in with a bid if there is any chance for a move to take place in the near future.
The North Londoners know that they might have to face life without the services of Harry Kane soon with top clubs lining up to make a move for him in the summer. Hence, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is aiming to bring Suarez into the club due to his previous experience in the Premier League. However, the same report has also disclosed that the Uruguayan is not considering a move to Spurs and is willing to fight for his place in Barcelona.
Tottenham are currently fighting for a place in the top four and are now sitting in sixth place in the Premier League table, just three points off fourth-placed Liverpool. They have fallen off in the race due to some lacklustre performances in recent weeks. However, this Spurs side has been brilliant in the Champions League group stages and has already beaten the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the competition.
If they are to have any chance of keeping hold of their star players or bring in someone of the calibre of Luis Suarez, they need to make Champions League qualification a top priority for next season. The Uruguayan international has scored 9 goals in 21 appearances for Barcelona and can be a real asset for the North Londoners if they are able to convince the star into joining them.
